CHARACTERISTICS

CEGABA (Carboxyethyl-ɣ-aminobutyric acid) is a synthesised amino acid and is found naturally in the cerebral tissue of mammalians and particularly in human cerebrospinal liquid; it is produced through a patented synthesis process without the use of any animal source. It appears to be an intermediate of an alternative metabolic pathway for the biosynthesis of the neuromodulator GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) starting from polyamines; the biological role of polyamines is not yet fully understood but their main role is the ability to stimulate cell growth and proliferation. Unlike these polyamines that are toxic when administered in vivo as they are rapidly transformed by amino oxidases into toxic metabolites, CEGABA has shown a high tolerability both in vitro and in vivo, stil continuing to exert its role as a promoter of cell growth and proliferation on some specialized mammalian cells. CEGABA efficacy in cosmetics is therefore related to its activity in cellular metabolism stimulation.
